San Diego signs NYRB’s Lewis Morgan

San Diego FC has strengthened its attacking options following the finalization of an agreement to acquire standout player Lewis Morgan from the New York Red Bulls.

According to MLS expert Tom Bogert, the New York Red Bulls are set to acquire an MLS SuperDraft selection and will also bear a segment of the player’s salary.

As part of the exchange, SDFC will transfer $450,000 in General Allocation Money to RBNY during the current year, alongside additional incentives, with an equivalent reciprocal transaction planned for 2027.

The 29-year-old, previously recognized as the MLS Comeback Player of the Year, made only three appearances for the Eastern Conference team in 2025, a mere twelve months after topping the club’s scoring charts with thirteen goals.

Julian de Guzman, RBNY’s Head of Sport, commented, “Lewis has consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism, navigating both challenging and highly successful periods in his career. We extend our best wishes to Lewis for his time in San Diego.”

San Diego, whose offensive lineup already features prominent Danish player Anders Dreyer and seasoned Norwegian performer Amahl Pellegrino, aims to sustain its strong position at the pinnacle of the Western Conference following a remarkable debut season at Snapdragon Stadium.

Morgan accumulated a total of 31 goals across 82 games for the Red Bulls, having initially joined MLS with Inter Miami in 2020.
