Mirroring numerous instances throughout his PGA Tour journey, Scottie Scheffler rose to the occasion when it mattered most. This time, it unfolded at the 2025 BMW Championship on Sunday, showcasing one of his most remarkable performances. The world’s top-ranked golfer executed an extraordinary chip-in on the 17th hole at Caves Valley Golf Club, propelling him to a two-stroke victory over Robert MacIntyre in the second phase of the FedEx Cup Playoffs and the season’s second-to-last tournament.

By securing his fifth triumph of the 2025 season and his 12th in the past couple of years on the PGA Tour, Scheffler joined Tiger Woods as the only player to secure 5+ tournament victories in successive seasons. Woods had a similar run across five seasons spanning from 1999-2003, and again for three seasons from 2005-07.

Scheffler commenced Sunday’s final round trailing MacIntyre by four strokes, but rapidly seized the lead from the Scottish competitor and seemed to be heading for a comfortable win as he approached the final holes near Baltimore. However, Scheffler surprisingly faltered on a couple of opportunities to sustain his advantage, missing relatively short par putts on the 12th and 14th holes. Despite a phenomenal birdie on the 15th that restored his lead to two strokes, the world’s No. 1 golfer could only manage a par on the par-5 16th, where MacIntyre scored a birdie.

Trailing by just one stroke on the challenging par-3 17th, MacIntyre’s tee shot went over the green. Scheffler’s shot landed short and to the left, away from the water hazard but leaving a tricky chip on a fast, downhill green. Unfortunately for MacIntyre, as several players have experienced when attempting to overtake Scheffler, no moment seems too overwhelming for the world’s leading golfer.

In addition to securing the tournament title and the $3.6 million first-place prize, Scheffler guaranteed himself a $5 million bonus by leading the FedEx Cup standings heading into next week’s Tour Championship, the season’s concluding event on the PGA Tour.
