Scotland: Triple injury blow, two recruits added

Gregor Hiddleston, the Glasgow Warriors hooker, and Gus Warr, the Sale Sharks scrum-half, have both been integrated into the Scotland national team roster due to injuries sustained by Dave Cherry and Jamie Dobie.

Cherry, a hooker from Vannes, suffered a calf injury while at the Scotland training camp, and Dobie, Glasgow’s adaptable back, is dealing with a knee issue. Both athletes will remain with the Scotland camp as preparations continue for their upcoming Guinness Six Nations campaign.

Conversely, Edinburgh flanker Liam McConnell has returned to his club after sustaining a rib injury.

Hiddleston, a 23-year-old player yet to earn a cap, was an unexpected exclusion from Gregor Townsend’s initial selection despite an outstanding season for the United Rugby Championship leaders, including impactful performances in Investec Champions Cup wins against Toulouse and Saracens. He had been designated to Nigel Carolan’s Scotland A squad for a match against an Italy XV.

Warr is set to cover for Dobie in the scrum-half position, though he lacks the broad utility that the Warriors star provides, given Dobie’s excellent form playing on the wing this season.
