Shane Pinto, an American forward who plays both ways, has agreed to a four-year contract extension with the Ottawa Senators.
The agreement, which was revealed on Thursday – the day after Pinto celebrated his 25th birthday – is valid until the conclusion of the 2029-30 season and will provide an annual salary of $7.5 million to Pinto.
Pinto, who was born in Long Island, New York, was Ottawa’s initial selection during the second round of the 2019 draft. He played for the first time during the 2021 season, which was shortened due to the pandemic.
Pinto has participated in 227 games throughout six seasons. His career saw an interruption because of a 41-game suspension he received in 2023-24 for gambling. He mentioned that acquaintances in the U.S. had placed bets on his behalf, while he was situated in Canada.
This year, Pinto is part of Ottawa’s third line, and he is ranked second among the forwards when it comes to ice time, as he usually begins his shifts outside the offensive area. He is tied as the leading scorer for the team with eight goals.
After earning a gold medal at the 2025 World Championship, he received an invitation to the summer training camp for the U.S. Olympic team.
