The San Jose Sharks announced on Friday that they have put forward Jimmy Huntington and netminder Eric Comrie on waivers, intending to send them down to the American Hockey League.
These moves do not come as a shock, particularly since Huntington has spent the majority of his time playing in the AHL over the past few years. Last year, he wore an ‘A’ as an alternate captain for the San Jose Barracuda, putting up 48 points (composed of 15 goals and 33 assists) across 71 matchups for the Sharks’ minor league affiliate. Throughout the exhibition schedule, Huntington suited up for three games with San Jose, finding the back of the net once and contributing two assists.
In contrast, Comrie has spent most of his recent campaigns in the NHL. Over the past two seasons, he functioned as the primary backup to Connor Hellebuyck while playing for the Winnipeg Jets. Before that stint, however, he frequently bounced between leagues, dividing his playing time between the NHL and the AHL, a spot he is anticipated to fill once again for San Jose. Should either Yaroslav Askarov or Alex Nedeljkovic go down with an injury, Comrie is expected to be the top candidate for a call-up to the big club.
During the exhibition period, Comrie played in a single contest for the Sharks, surrendering two goals on 16 shots during slightly more than 30 minutes of action.
