Shildt Ejected After Fan Interference Overturns Bogaerts HR; Padres Lose to Giants.

Following a disagreement over a spectator interaction ruling during their Monday night game, which concluded in a 4-3 defeat to the San Francisco Giants, San Diego Padres skipper Mike Shildt was ejected from the match.

In the second inning at Petco Park on Monday, Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts seemed to have hit a home run that sailed toward left field. The ball narrowly cleared the outfield wall. Giants left fielder Heliot Ramos almost made a catch, but the ball visibly hit his glove and went into the stands.

A spectator, in an attempt to catch the ball, reached over Ramos’ glove as it descended. Although the fan didn’t touch the ball, Ramos gestured, attributing the missed catch to the fan after the ball went out.

Even though the fan seemed to have missed the ball and Ramos completely, the review concluded that the spectator had interfered with the play. As a result, the home run was nullified, and the Giants maintained their four-run advantage.

Shildt then came out to protest the result of the review, which triggered his immediate ejection.

The Giants gained momentum early in the first inning on Monday night. Ramos and Rafael Devers each launched solo home runs at the beginning of the game, followed by Wilmer Flores who added a two-run homer, giving them an early four-run lead.

The Padres finally scored in the seventh inning after Bogaerts scored due to an error, and Ryan O’Hearn then hit a two-run shot to center field. However, they remained one run behind and couldn’t finish the comeback after Bogaerts’ initial run was taken away.

Following a sweep by the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Padres have now suffered four consecutive losses, which has pushed them back to second place in the NL West standings. Their current record is 69-56. Meanwhile, the Giants now have a record of 61-64 but remain firmly in third place in the division.
