SEATTLE — Just four days after joining the Chicago Bears, Jeffery Simmons is already making waves.
Simmons, who was traded to the Bears on Thursday in a significant deal with the Tennessee Titans, took the field in blue and orange against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night. In the first quarter, the defensive tackle made a crucial play, bringing down the Seahawks’ Sam Darnold for a 6-yard loss.
Regrettably for Chicago, they were unable to capitalize on the tackle due to a penalty. Grady Jarrett was penalized for a facemask that occurred subsequent to the play, which allowed Seattle to gain 15 yards. Nevertheless, the sack was recorded in the stats, marking Simmons’ initial major achievement since his move.
The Bears invested heavily to acquire Simmons, sending Tennessee two first-round draft selections (one for 2027 and another for 2028) as part of the trade. Chicago’s defense has faced challenges, as the team has allowed the most yards per attempt (8.7) in the league.
Despite the steep price, Bears general manager Ryan Poles asserted on Friday that the organization doesn’t view this as disregarding draft selections — or what he refers to as the “F them picks” approach. Instead, he emphasized Simmons’ potential to create a positive impact both on the field and within the team’s culture.
“I don’t think it can be either or when you discuss a transaction of this magnitude,” Poles remarked. “You need to have both. And that’s what Jeffery brings. We are confident he will affect us at a high level on the field and also in the locker room.”
