Sinner cruises to quarter-finals

On Monday, Lorenzo Musetti showcased a formidable performance, defeating Taylor Fritz in straight sets to arrange a quarter-final clash against Novak Djokovic, who has won the tournament ten times.

After enduring a demanding five-set contest against Tomas Machac just two days prior, Musetti effortlessly triumphed with a 6-2, 7-5, 6-4 score against the American player, seeded ninth.

The 23-year-old Italian, currently ranked fifth globally, has now advanced to the quarter-finals in all four Grand Slam events and stated his intent to challenge Djokovic to his “utmost.”

The tennis star, a 24-time Grand Slam title holder, moved into the last eight after Jakub Mensik withdrew from their fourth-round match due to an abdominal ailment.

“Novak and I have competed many, many times, and each encounter is a learning experience,” commented Musetti, who has secured only one victory in his ten matches against the Serb.

“He wasn’t required to play today, so I am quite certain he won’t be tired. Hopefully, the momentum I’ve gained from today’s excellent match will bring me fortune for the upcoming one.”

“I feel prepared to endeavor to push him as far as possible.”

Djokovic, aged 38, will have enjoyed three full days of rest and recuperation by the time he faces Musetti on Wednesday.
