The athlete from Italy has secured victories in three of the last four major competitions, following his triumph at the US Open last year with subsequent wins at the Australian Open in January and Wimbledon just last month.
The sole Grand Slam defeat Sinner has experienced this year occurred against Alcaraz from Spain during a memorable French Open final match in June.
“I possess incredible recollections,” Sinner commented when questioned about his return to Flushing Meadows as the reigning champion.
“Each year presents its own unique characteristics, and you arrive here with the aspiration of commencing this tournament in the most favorable manner achievable, which I believe I have accomplished.
“Returning to a Grand Slam event, where the emotions remain palpable, fills me with great joy to be back here, competing against the most skilled athletes globally.”
Sinner is slated to face Alexei Popyrin, the world number 36 from Australia, in the second round, following Popyrin’s straight-sets victory over Emil Ruusuvuori of Finland.
