Sky & ITV: Why the Same Game Tonight?

The EFL Cup matches featuring Wrexham against Cardiff and Newcastle versus Southampton will be broadcast on both ITV and Sky Sports.

Wrexham and Cardiff will compete against each other for the first time since 2002, while Newcastle aims to prolong their reign with the trophy they secured after 70 years, against Tottenham, who are also eager for triumph.

Newcastle’s triumph at Wembley against Liverpool during the last season, after a score of 2-1, concluded a trophy drought spanning seven decades, emphasizing the importance of the EFL Cup.

Several teams, including Liverpool and Newcastle, will be aiming for the competition to spark their domestic seasons, following slow starts.

A fresh broadcasting arrangement that was initiated in 2024/25 allowed ITV certain broadcasting rights to showcase the English Football League Cup in real-time. They transmitted one leg of each of the semi-finals last year, with Sky also involved in the broadcasting of these matches.

As of the 2025/26 season, every EFL Cup match can be watched on Sky Sports, and ITV will be authorized to air 10 matches from the competition.

They aired Grimsby’s remarkable win against Manchester United during the second round and presented Liverpool’s close victory over Southampton in the third round.

The agreement lasts until the 2026/27 season, meaning the next season will operate similarly.

The agreement allows ITV to present 10 EFL matches a season as well.

It’s positive news for those enthusiastic about watching football. If you prepare, you can watch two matches simultaneously, with Sky broadcasting every match from all rounds.

If desired, you can observe the game on two distinct screens, elevating your scrutiny to the next level.
