The lineup of NHL coaches might be finalized. The Dallas Stars selected Glen Gulutzan to succeed Peter DeBoer, according to the announcement made by the team on Tuesday.
This marks Gulutzan’s return to a head coaching position since 2018, having previously served as an assistant coach for the Edmonton Oilers for the past six seasons. In an official statement, Jim Nill, the Dallas general manager, expressed that Gulutzan has developed considerably since his initial tenure with the Stars from 2011 to 2013.
“We are delighted to introduce Glen as the head coach for the Dallas Stars,” stated Nill. “Since his earlier period in Dallas, Glen has dedicated himself to becoming one of the most highly regarded coaches in the NHL. His substantial experience in the NHL, both as a head coach and assistant coach, demonstrates his capacity to innovate and adjust to the current style of play, as well as cultivate connections with his players. Glen has collaborated with some of the most talented players globally and consistently identified strategies to maximize their capabilities to contribute to the team’s achievements. We are fully assured that he is the appropriate individual to advance our team to a higher competitive standard.”
Dallas initially provided Gulutzan with his first opportunity as a coach in 2011, although the partnership did not fully achieve its potential. Under Gulutzan’s leadership, the team achieved a 64-57-9 record but did not secure any playoff appearances. Gulutzan also held the head coaching position for the Calgary Flames from 2016 to 2018, where he achieved a record of 82-68-14. He successfully guided the Flames to the playoffs in 2017; however, they faced a sweep in the first round against the Anaheim Ducks.
In other coaching updates, the Pittsburgh Penguins have appointed Dan Muse, formerly an assistant coach with the New York Rangers. The Seattle Kraken have welcomed Lane Lambert, previously the coach of the New York Islanders, the Canucks have promoted their assistant Adam Foote, and Rick Tocchet has rejoined the Philadelphia Flyers as the organization’s new coach.
Following the hiring of Gulutzan, all the coaching vacancies within the NHL have been successfully filled.
