Super Bowl 60: Patriots vs. Seahawks; Raiders, Bills, Browns, Cardinals continue coaching search.

The teams for Super Bowl LX have been officially determined, with the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots preparing for the championship event. The kick-off is slated for Sunday, February 8th, at 6:30 p.m. ET, taking place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Championship Sunday commenced with the Patriots staging a comeback in a low-scoring contest against Denver, ultimately besting the Jarrett Stidham-led Broncos 10-7. The Broncos were missing Bo Nix, whose season concluded due to an ankle injury sustained during their overtime triumph against the Bills in the divisional round. Furthermore, a snowy and blustery second half hampered offensive efforts for both sides. Second-year quarterback and MVP contender Drake Maye managed to reduce the turnovers that had recently troubled him, guiding New England to Super Bowl 60 in Mike Vrabel’s inaugural year as head coach, achieving this with a mere 86 total passing yards, no touchdowns, and no interceptions.

The NFC championship game delivered a more thrilling offensive display for football enthusiasts, as the Los Angeles Rams and Seahawks collectively amassed 879 yards of offense. Seattle secured a 31-27 victory over LA, despite a commendable showing from Matthew Stafford, who concluded the game with 374 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions, enduring only a single nine-yard sack. Sam Darnold also registered an impressive stat line of 346 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions, a notable improvement after his previous struggles against the Rams during two regular-season matchups (two touchdowns, six interceptions).

The Rams’ aspirations for another Super Bowl under coach Sean McVay almost materialized following a third-quarter taunting infraction against Seahawks cornerback Riq Woolen, which set up a Rams touchdown, keeping the game tight. Nevertheless, in the late stages of the fourth quarter, the Seahawks executed a crucial fourth-down stop at the goal line, a play that could have given the Rams a late lead. That particular moment — which McVay later described as a “fortunate breakdown” in his post-game conference — largely secured Seattle’s journey to Santa Clara.

Concurrently, the executive searches for new head coaches persist this week for organizations such as the Las Vegas Raiders, Buffalo Bills, Cleveland Browns, and Arizona Cardinals. These teams are now permitted to pursue additional interviews with coaching staff candidates from the Broncos and Los Angeles Rams, given their elimination from playoff contention.

The Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook unveiled its yearly Super Bowl proposition wager package on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. PT, illuminating the odds display with myriad betting opportunities for the forthcoming major game. Several of the nation’s most astute prop bettors convened to place $2,000 wagers on individual props before rejoining the queue to repeat the process.

Yahoo Sports consulted Casey Degnon, a risk manager at SuperBook, who identified six proposition bets that attracted significant attention from seasoned bettors on the initial night:

    • Running Back TreVeyon Henderon total receiving yards to be under 4.5 (-110)

    • Overall count of Seahawks players with a rushing attempt: Over 4.5 (-110)

    • Prediction for a 2-point conversion attempt: No (-140)

    • Running Back Rhamondre Stevenson total receptions to be over 2.5 (-140)

    • Wide Receiver Jake Bob total receiving yards to be under 0.5 (-140)

  • Length of the initial successful field goal to exceed 36.5 yards (-110)

Although it is still early, the general public continues to place bets on the Seahawks covering the spread in Super Bowl LX. In this year’s premier sporting event, gamblers are favoring the Seahawks, while the sportsbooks are hoping for a low-scoring game with few touchdowns,” stated Christian Cipollini, a trading manager at BetMGM, in a press release. “While there’s still time before the game, it appears that both the game and futures markets will prove profitable for bettors if the Seahawks cover the spread and secure an outright victory.”

The Seattle Seahawks did not conduct a practice session on Wednesday. However, NFL protocols mandate the release of a practice/injury report starting today, ahead of the Super Bowl scheduled for the following week.

The following constitutes the anticipated report if the team had participated in practice on Wednesday.

Linebacker Ernest Jones IV (chest injury) and offensive tackle Amari Kight (knee problem) were the sole players listed as Did Not Participate (DNP) for Wednesday.

The New England Patriots did not hold practice on Wednesday. Nonetheless, quarterback Drake Maye would have been listed as limited due to a “right shoulder” concern, according to the team’s provisional injury report.

Maye has maintained a perfect attendance record this season, his sophomore year in the NFL. Following the Patriots’ triumph in the AFC title game, there was speculation he might have sustained an injury during the conference championship. However, Maye clarified on Boston’s WEEI that his shoulder issue was merely “the cumulative effect of throwing” throughout the season, as reported by The Associated Press.

During that radio appearance, Maye reiterated his readiness for the Super Bowl.

New England Patriots’ quarterback Drake Maye was questioned on WEEI regarding any potential limitations he might face in the two weeks preceding the Super Bowl.

“I believe it’s premature to comment. Currently, I feel well and am eager to get out there, preparing for the Seahawks and getting ready to perform.”

Maye is thought to have injured his right shoulder during a scramble play in the third quarter of Sunday’s AFC title game in Denver. Head coach Mike Vrabel provided a similarly understated response when asked about Maye’s condition.

The New England Patriots triumphed over the Denver Broncos in Sunday’s AFC title game, securing their spot in Super Bowl LX. During that contest, quarterback Drake Maye appeared to sustain an injury to his right shoulder in the third quarter, stemming from a scramble play where a Broncos defender landed on him.

When questioned about the incident, head coach Mike Vrabel largely downplayed the severity of the injury. While it does not seem to be a major concern, attention will undoubtedly be focused on Maye and any potential complications leading up to Super Bowl LX.

It is common for teams with an average quarterback to retain them regardless of the cost, even when it is internally acknowledged that a Super Bowl victory is unlikely with that player. Decision-makers often lack the luxury of time to implement a quarterback change and weather its initial challenges if immediate success isn’t achieved, thus prompting a conservative approach.

However, the Seattle Seahawks have executed two bold strategic maneuvers concerning their quarterback position in recent seasons, and these decisions are now propelling them to the Super Bowl.

Seattle Seahawks offensive left tackle Charles Cross is experiencing foot discomfort following Sunday’s NFC title game win against the LA Rams, but his condition is not expected to be serious. Cross has been managing this foot issue for some time, so it is not considered a significant new concern.

Despite missing three games this season, Cross has largely demonstrated durability since his entry into the league in 2022 as a first-round draft selection for the Seahawks.
