The renowned organisation, Team Liquid, has revealed the addition of Marcus ‘Ace‘ Hoelgaard and Erik ‘tOfu‘ Engel to its competitive Dota 2 lineup.
A promotional video, lasting three minutes, was published online, showcasing gameplay highlights from the pair, who formerly competed under the banner of Gaimin Gladiators.
“It’s a little daunting, because I’ve been competing with some of my fellow players for quite some time now, particularly tOfu,” Ace communicated in a statement released by Team Liquid.
“So becoming part of a new squad and a different system definitely creates a sense of unease. Not excessively, just a reasonable amount. But it’s quite fascinating and engaging to experiment with something new of this nature.”
Both athletes have attained different levels of achievement within the Dota 2 professional sphere before their integration into Team Liquid. During their tenure with Gaimin Gladiators, both members achieved victory at Riyadh Masters 2024, achieving a 3-0 triumph over Team Liquid in the culminating Grand Finals. Throughout 2025 alone, the pairing secured runner-up positions in both PGL Wallachia Season 5 and FISSURE Universe Episode 4.
“I believe I’ve competed against Team Liquid more frequently than any other esports organisation, both in informal matches and formal tournaments,” tOfu expressed in an interview facilitated by Team Liquid.
“And due to the regularity of our encounters, it developed into a dynamic similar to having a friendly competition with close associates. In general, with Team Liquid, I always experienced the strongest connections. With their players and their coaching staff. I have consistently admired them and maintained a profound sense of respect for them.”
Followers can look forward to observing the pair in upcoming Dota 2 premier events such as Blast Slam IV, scheduled to take place from October 14th to November 9th, 2025.
Team Liquid Separates From Dota 2 Strategist
Information regarding their engagement was released soon after Team Liquid shared the notification that one of its Dota 2 coaching personnel, Damien ‘kpii‘ Chok, had departed from the structure.
The instructor previously assisted in the team’s positive performance during The Internationals 2024, alongside further events such as PGL Wallachia Seasons 3 and 4.
“kpii’s contribution to our TI 2024 progression cannot be adequately emphasised,” Team Liquid announced.
“He was an essential element of that accomplishment, and his influence was apparent throughout the seasons he committed to us. His composed demeanour evolved into a fundamental aspect of the close-knit atmosphere that brought our team together and made our coaching group exceptionally special.”
