The MongolZ have successfully progressed to the semi-final stage of BLAST Bounty Season 2, triumphing after staging an impressive recovery against Aurora Gaming.
The squad from Mongolia in Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) overcame their rivals from Turkey with a 2-0 victory, advancing closer to securing a major part of the tournament’s $480,000 (~£354,000) prize allocation.
Aurora Gaming chose to face The MongolZ during the drafting phase, marking the fourth instance this year that these two teams have clashed in the Playoffs of a specific event, BLAST Bounty Season 2.
The team hailing from Mongolia started the contest strongly, securing a tight 13-11 win on Dust II, which was Aurora’s map choice, thereby taking an initial advantage in the series.
Nevertheless, the squad representing Turkey were not yet defeated, as they surged ahead to create a significant 11-round margin on Mirage, thereby requiring The MongolZ to execute an unlikely resurgence.
A critical one-versus-three clutch executed by Garidmagnai ‘bLitz‘ Byambasuren while on the attacking side proved pivotal for The MongolZ, as it secured their sole offensive round on the map.
The defensive setup from the Mongolians proved resilient in the latter half of the game, with the deployment of a double AWP strategy effectively preventing any incursions from Aurora onto the key sites.
Following their success in recovering from the eleven-round deficit, The MongolZ proceeded to force the game into overtime, eventually securing a 16-13 victory on Mirage, thereby completing one of the most remarkable comebacks seen in the CS2 era.
Future Prospects for The MongolZ
Due to their triumph over Aurora Gaming in the quarter-finals, The MongolZ now stand as the second team confirmed to compete in the semi-finals of BLAST Bounty Season 2, joining MOUZ, which previously secured its place by defeating Astralis during the initial quarter-final match.
Following the conclusion of each playoff round, teams are reseeded according to the opponent they defeated in the prior match. The team holding the lower seed is afforded the opportunity to select their next opponent from those with higher seeds still participating in the event.
On August 15th, the remaining two quarter-final matches are scheduled, featuring Team Vitality against Team Liquid, and Team Spirit in opposition to Virtus.pro.
