Tiger Woods: Back Surgery, Out Indefinitely Amid Achilles Recovery

Word is out that Tiger Woods has gone through another spinal procedure, sharing the information Saturday night on social media, stating his most recent medical intervention occurred Friday in New York subsequent to medical professionals identifying a damaged lumbar disc. Woods was already not participating in golf events due to an Achilles issue earlier this year.

“Encountering discomfort and reduced flexibility in my back, I sought advice from physicians and surgical specialists to conduct examinations,” Woods stated. “Evaluations showed a deteriorated disc at L4/5, disc segments, and a constrained spinal pathway. I decided to have the disc addressed yesterday, and I feel confident it was the proper course of action regarding my well-being and spinal health.”

Woods has previously overcome several spinal operations throughout his career, even though they have undoubtedly accumulated over time. Although Tiger’s report described the operation as successful, there was no projected period for a potential return to competitive golf.

Now going through rehabilitation following an operation for an Achilles issue that prevented him from competing during the entire 2025 season, Woods most recently took part in TGL, the simulated golf competition he manages with Rory McIlroy. Supporters had hoped he might be present for the following season when it commences near the close of December. Nevertheless, the October back operation likely reduces Woods’ chances of engaging in this TGL season, and it certainly casts doubt on his likelihood of participating in the major tournament season of 2026.

The total of operations and treatments Woods has had throughout his career now exceeds a dozen. This most recent treatment is Woods’ seventh involving his back since 2014 and his second in the span of 13 months.

Tiger has also undergone multiple operations on his knees, ankles, legs, and Achilles tendons during his playing career. Every instance he shared news of yet another operation, Woods has conveyed his resolve to regain his standing at the pinnacle of golf, with his 2019 Masters victory possibly representing the pinnacle of his achievements. 

Currently, with Woods approximately two months away from reaching the age of 50, he is faced with yet another significant challenge to his physical condition.
