The Bath scrum-half, Tom Carr-Smith, has committed to remaining with the club at The Rec for an additional year, having agreed to a one-season contract.
Carr-Smith, who is due to celebrate his 24th birthday by the end of this month, progressed through the club’s youth academy and has, to date, accumulated 49 appearances for the squad in blue, black, and white.
This former England U20 international first played for the club against Gloucester in the PREM Rugby Cup during the 2021/22 campaign, subsequently solidifying his position as the secondary scrum-half, behind England’s Ben Spencer.
Given Spencer will turn 34 in July, Bath’s hope is that Carr-Smith will step into a long-term successor role. While he has demonstrated potential, the upcoming twelve months will be crucial for him to convince Johann van Graan that there is no need to recruit another number nine from outside the club.
Johann van Graan, the Head of Rugby, commented on the player’s contract renewal: “It has been a privilege to observe Tom’s growth at Bath Rugby, which culminated in his involvement in all three matchday 23 finals in the 2024/25 season.
“We are keenly anticipating the heights Tom can reach in the coming season.”
Carr-Smith expressed: The individuals at Bath Rugby are profoundly important to me, and I feel immense gratitude to be a member of such a distinctive group.
“Bath truly is my home. I am eager to consistently enhance my skills and achieve continued success with this outstanding club.”
