The head coach of Newcastle United, Eddie Howe, has provided information on player fitness prior to their upcoming Premier League match against Burnley.
Newcastle, currently in 12th position, has experienced inconsistent performance at the beginning of the current season, notably in Premier League matches. However, they have accumulated seven points from their most recent three games, raising optimism that they can revitalize their campaign and compete for a Champions League spot again.
Eddie Howe gives Newcastle injury update on Sandro Tonali and Yoane Wissa
Tonali was subbed out for Bruno Guimaraes at halftime during Newcastle’s 2-2 draw against Tottenham on Tuesday night following a leg injury.
The Italian player underwent a medical scan. Howe did not reveal the scan results during his Friday morning press conference, even if Newcastle had obtained them by then.
The Newcastle manager commented on Tonali, stating: “He has undergone a scan, and we anticipate that it is not too serious.”
“We are providing him with every opportunity to confirm his fitness, if feasible. He sustained a knock, quite similar to the one Joelinton experienced, resembling a dead leg sensation.”
“However, Sandro’s injury raised sufficient concerns to warrant a scan. We will evaluate his condition today and provide him with every opportunity to regain fitness.”
If Tonali is unavailable, this would add to Howe’s existing injury concerns before the match against his former team.
Sven Botman has received an injection for his back problem after being absent from Newcastle’s previous two matches. Howe suggested that it might take approximately one week for the injection to become effective.
William Osula (ankle), Nick Pope (groin), Emil Krafth (knee), and Kieran Trippier (hamstring) are all likely to join Botman on the list of injured players.
Yoane Wissa’s participation remains uncertain, but he will be evaluated on Friday to determine if he is finally prepared to make his debut for Newcastle.
The player, who arrived from Brentford on the transfer deadline day, has been sidelined due to a knee injury sustained while on international duty with DR Congo in September. However, he has been participating fully in training sessions and took part in an 11-v-11 practice game on Wednesday.
