There had been talk linking Tottenham to a possible acquisition of the Gray brothers, Archie and Harry, ahead of the latter’s most recent birthday.
The younger sibling reached the age of seventeen at the start of October, which qualified him to formally agree to his first professional terms.
On the other hand, Archie transferred to Spurs during the summer of 2024 after Leeds were unsuccessful in their attempt to gain promotion through the Championship play-offs, leaving the club he supported as a boy for a sum reportedly reaching £40 million following his inaugural complete season in professional football.
Tottenham Hotspur don’t get 17-year-old Leeds United prospect
Earlier in the summer, Spurs had already secured the signature of teenage forward and England youth international Oliver Boast from Leeds, with the Elland Road club due compensation for training provided rather than a standard transfer payment for the player’s move.
It’s believed that Boast chose to depart Leeds because he felt Gray’s presence and manager Daniel Farke’s inclination towards the teenager were obstructing his progression to senior football.
The hope among Leeds supporters was that a similar scenario would not unfold concerning Harry Gray’s future, as he’s considered the prized asset of the club’s Thorp Arch academy.
Gray joined the ranks of five family members who have represented the Leeds first team, making his debut in a 6-0 victory against Stoke City towards the conclusion of the previous season.
The 17-year-old has now formally signed a ‘long-term’ agreement, according to Leeds representatives, effectively putting an end to any speculation about his immediate future.
“Everyone associated with Leeds United extends their congratulations to Harry on securing his first professional agreement and we’re looking forward to observing his continued progress over the upcoming seasons”, read a statement from the club.
With Leeds fans celebrating Gray’s commitment to a contract expected to last until the conclusion of the 2027/28 season, Spurs can now place their focus on nurturing their own exceptional striking talent in Luca Williams-Barnett.
The 17-year-old made his first appearance for Tottenham in the League Cup earlier in the season and is highly regarded by the coaching staff at the club.
