The Lilywhites are intensifying their activity in the transfer market as the deadline approaches, potentially targeting Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid.
It seems Tottenham have secured Xavi Simons, reminiscent of Eberechi Eze’s move to Arsenal after initial links with Brentford.
Their focus is now on bolstering their midfield options, and after missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White earlier this period, they’ve shifted their focus to Gallagher.
Tottenham ‘stalking’ Gallagher ahead of potential late swoop
Gallagher departed England in the previous summer window, joining Atletico Madrid from Chelsea for a sum around €42 million.
He was part of the Three Lions squad that made it to the EURO 2024 final, and regularly wore the captain’s armband for Chelsea during the 2023/24 campaign due to injuries to Reece James and Ben Chilwell.
The Spanish media outlet Marca, in their paper released on Friday, suggest Tottenham are monitoring the midfielder and lead the race to sign him before the window shuts on Monday.
Atletico Madrid are reluctant to part ways with Gallagher and reportedly seek a fee exceeding the €42 million they paid a year prior.
They view their summer dealings as complete, and only a transfer involving Gallagher would alter that.
Spurs aren’t the only Premier League team showing interest, with Crystal Palace apparently keen on re-signing him after his loan spell at Selhurst Park in the 2021/22 season.
For Tottenham, this deal could prove to be astute, more so if they can secure a transfer fee lower than Ateltico’s €50 million valuation.
He is a combative and versatile midfielder and would be a good addition in depth as they participate in the Champions League.
Transfermarkt estimates Gallagher’s worth at €40 million.
