Tyreek Hill Knee Injury: Dislocation and Ligament Tears Reported

The Miami Dolphins’ campaign was already facing hurdles, and then their premier wide receiver suffered a dislocated knee, according to post-game comments from head coach Mike McDaniel.

Reports also surfaced, via ESPN’s Adam Schefter, that Hill sustained tears to multiple ligaments in his knee. A surgical procedure is slated for Tuesday.

Based on projections from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the injury is anticipated to sideline him for the entirety of the 2025 season, with his return in 2026 also under a cloud of uncertainty given the extent of the damage.

Despite the injury, and the potential for a lengthy recovery, Hill appeared upbeat on Tuesday. Prior to undergoing surgery, Hill shared a video on social media, expressing gratitude to Dolphins supporters and his followers for the outpouring of prayers and encouragement following the injury.

Tyreek Hill was performing strongly, and the Dolphins held a lead against the New York Jets on Monday night, when Hill sustained the significant injury. He was tackled near the sideline, with an opposing player landing awkwardly on his leg. Television coverage displayed Hill on the ground with his lower leg visibly misaligned. The Dolphins, ultimately victorious with a 27-21 score, promptly ruled him out for the remainder of the game.

Hill was transported to a nearby medical facility for imaging, assessment, and monitoring, and was expected to remain hospitalized overnight, as reported by various media outlets, according to McDaniel.

During the “Monday Night Football” broadcast on ESPN, it was mentioned that the team’s athletic training staff removed Hill’s cleat and then stabilized his leg. ESPN further reported that Hill’s mother joined him on the field before he was placed on a cart and taken back to the locker room wearing a cast.

Following a challenging 2024 season, Hill had previously expressed a desire to leave Miami after the season’s conclusion, but those issues were resolved, and he had begun the 2025 season with promise. Hill accumulated 198 receiving yards in Miami’s initial three games and added another 67 yards on Monday before the injury occurred in the third quarter. In 2022 and 2023, his initial two seasons with the Dolphins after a trade from the Kansas City Chiefs, Hill was widely regarded as one of the NFL’s top receivers, exceeding 1,700 yards in each season. Last season, at the age of 30, he experienced a decline in performance, and depending on the severity of the current injury, it may be challenging for him to regain his previous form in 2026 at age 32.

The Dolphins commenced the season with a 0-3 record prior to Monday’s victory, sparking rumors about a potential trade involving Hill. In the aftermath of Monday’s game, the focus shifted to Hill’s potential return to the field.
