UCF’s offensive line coach, Shawn Clark, was admitted to a medical facility following a health incident on Tuesday evening, according to a statement released by the university on Wednesday.
The statement noted, “[Clark] is currently in a stable state and is getting the required medical attention. Coach [Scott] Frost, along with our football program and administrative personnel, are offering complete support to Coach Clark and his family during this period. Our well-wishes and prayers are with Shawn and his family. Further information will be shared as it becomes available.”
Clark, aged 50, became a member of the UCF team when Frost was selected for his second stint with the Knights, following Gus Malzahn’s move to Florida State.

Prior to his arrival at UCF, Clark served as the head coach for Appalachian State for a period of five seasons. During his time in Boone, the Mountaineers achieved a record of 40-24, but Clark’s employment was terminated after a 5-6 season in 2024. The university stated that “the standard for App State football is to consistently vie for a conference title and a spot in the College Football Playoff.”
During Clark’s five seasons with the team, the Mountaineers achieved at least nine victories in three of those seasons, including a 10-4 record in 2021.
Before taking over from Eli Drinkwitz as the head coach at App State, Clark held the position of assistant head coach and offensive line coach. As a former offensive lineman for App State, Clark coached the offensive line for the Mountaineers for four seasons. He also previously worked as an assistant at Kent State and Purdue.
