The Bruins’ quarterback, Pierce Clarkson, is currently facing a suspension from the team roster following his apprehension due to an unconfirmed severe offense.
Official documentation from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department indicates that Clarkson was taken into custody by the Los Angeles Police Department around 12 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, September 5. Specifics regarding the accusations against Clarkson have not been disclosed.
UCLA released an official declaration on September 7 acknowledging the charges against Clarkson, stating that “he is under indefinite suspension from all team-related events while the legal proceedings are underway.”
“The UCLA Office of Student Conduct will examine this matter, and any subsequent measures will align with their assessment and the University’s established policies,” the declaration elaborated.
Clarkson’s bail was initially set at $30,000, and he was released on the same day as his arrest after submitting the required bond. His scheduled court appearance at the Los Angeles Municipal Court is set for October 3.

Clarkson, a 21-year-old transfer student from Louisville, had been vying for the role of backup quarterback for the Bruins, competing with Luke Duncan, while Nico Iamaleava holds the starting position. During his time with the Cardinals, Clarkson participated in three games, completing four out of six attempted passes for a total of 18 yards, in addition to three rushes accumulating 14 yards.
Clarkson has not yet been involved in any of the opening two games of the 2025 season. Sources at UCLA have verified to USA TODAY Sports that Clarkson was not present with the team in Las Vegas during their match against UNLV.
