The English national team’s head coach, Gareth Southgate, presented a promising young player with a significant chance at their training facility on Wednesday.
Ahead of the Three Lions’ scheduled friendly match against Scotland this coming weekend, Southgate extended invitations to three members of the Under-20 team to participate in a training session alongside the senior squad.
Despite not having yet played professionally, one player has already been singled out as someone with enormous potential, and Southgate’s invitation has significantly bolstered those prospects.

It is widely acknowledged that the quantity of emerging English talent across various age groups is substantial, suggesting an increasingly promising outlook for the future.
Southgate’s decision to provide significant opportunities to three Under-20 players has been well-received, especially considering that one player from Manchester United is now expected to make his first-team debut within the next few months.
During the training session, Shea Lacey was among those invited to participate with the Three Lions squad, alongside Lakyle Samuel and Harrison Murray-Campbell. Lacey has faced challenges with injuries over the past year but has recently demonstrated exceptional performance for Manchester United’s Under-21s.
He only required a brief appearance to score twice against Crystal Palace in the Premier League 2 a few weeks prior, securing a brace in a 4-1 victory, which included a clever free-kick that highlighted his technical skills.
Travis Binnion, the lead coach for United’s Under-21s, has acknowledged that Lacey requires time, but his potential is undeniable. “Everyone knows about Shea Lacey,” he stated to MEN Sport.
“Therefore, he needs some luck, must be patient with himself, and everyone else should also exercise patience with him.
“He is in a similar situation to Chido due to time lost. However, unlike Chido, who is progressing rapidly, Shea still has much to develop tactically, physically, and mentally due to his time away. Everyone can see – it’s impossible to miss – the talent he possesses.
“He has much to improve in his game, and he is aware of it. We are still managing him physically, because if he can remain on the field and train consistently, I believe everyone agrees that he has the potential to become a top-tier player.”
Lacey’s participation at the international level further confirms what many have long suspected, with his playing style often compared to that of Manchester City’s academy standout, Cole Palmer.
According to FourFourTwo, Lacey may not have to wait much longer for his first taste of senior-level soccer, especially given Amorim’s eagerness to offer opportunities to young talents like Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson, and Chido Obi over the past year.
