The U.S. women’s national basketball squad advanced to the championship match of the 2024 Summer Games, defeating Australia by a score of 85-64 on Friday.
Breanna Stewart was the game’s high scorer with 16 points, A’ja Wilson contributed 14 points and four blocked shots, and eleven of the twelve players on Team USA recorded at least one point.
Team USA will compete for its eighth consecutive women’s basketball gold medal on Sunday (9:30 a.m. ET, NBC) playing against France. In the other semifinal on Friday, France prevailed over Belgium with a score of 81-75.
The United States and France will face each other in the finals for both men’s and women’s basketball. This marks the first instance in Olympic history where the same two nations compete in both the men’s and women’s basketball final.
