Warren’s Plan: Dubois Aims to Defeat Usyk

According to Frank Warren, the promoter for Daniel Dubois, the method for his boxer to triumph over Oleksandr Usyk lies in continuously applying stress, thereby forcing him “on the defensive” this coming Saturday night. This heavyweight title contest is scheduled for Wembley Stadium.

Daniel Dubois’ Development

“I believe that he has shown this in his past three fights. He has grown mentally and is in a different stage of his career,” Frank Warren of Queensberry stated, responding to a question about Daniel Dubois’ enhancement since his match against Oleksandr Usyk in the past. “He understands that he possesses the power to inflict harm.”

Dubois undoubtedly has the capability to injure any opponent, but the key question remains: can he effectively reach Usyk to utilize his power? Oleksandr is unlikely to remain a static target like Daniel’s recent adversaries. He will depend on movement, using jabs, and clinching Dubois when he ventures too close. It’s unwise to anticipate Usyk behaving recklessly as AJ did in the fifth round, when he took risks.

“No, he poses a threat constantly,” Warren remarked when asked if Dubois needed to secure an early knockout of Usyk to achieve victory. “My feeling is he’s capable of stopping him. I’m not bothered by the method of his win as long as he secures it. However, many do not give him sufficient credit for his boxing skills. He won’t be permitting those rounds to pass without engaging actively.”

Dubois is a constant menace, but that’s less true as fights wear on. He seems to lose impact around the tenth round. In his bout against Usyk, Daniel seemed to get tired by the eighth round. This may be why he took a knee in that round, and then again in the ninth leading to a knockout loss. Usyk is sure to remember his victory and will aim for a repeat.

The Significance of Pressuring Usyk for Dubois

“To defeat Usyk, the essential tactic is to keep him reacting. You significantly reduce his effectiveness, by around 60 to 70%, by employing this method. He’s intelligent and after watching several of his fights, I’ve noticed that when he is hit in this area [midsection], he frequently complains to the referee,” Warren commented regarding Usyk.

Applying pressure is potentially the most promising strategy for Dubois in this upcoming battle. He isn’t likely to beat Usyk at pure boxing, and he may also face stamina issues in later rounds. Absent pressure, Daniel’s chances of getting to the final round are slim. It’s probable that Oleksandr will initiate a string of powerful attacks and overwhelm Dubois, unless Dubois can impose his will early in the fight.
