Warriors Owner Lacob: “We’ll Win No Matter What Rules”

The upcoming offseason could present some difficulties for the Golden State Warriors as they attempt to bolster their squad, largely due to stipulations in the NBA’s newly ratified collective bargaining agreement. However, team owner Joe Lacob remains optimistic about his team’s prospects.

In comments made to reporters on Tuesday, Lacob stated, “We’re going to achieve victory regardless. Irrespective of the regulations in place.”

According to the league’s updated CBA, teams exceeding the luxury tax threshold by $17.5 million will encounter substantial limitations regarding roster modifications. This presents a challenge for the Warriors, who are anticipating a sizable luxury tax payment while also confronting significant decisions related to their roster.

Assuming Golden State reaches a new agreement with star forward Draymond Green and refrains from trading Jordan Poole this offseason, John Hollinger of The Athletic highlighted earlier in the month that these actions could lead to a luxury tax reaching $250 million. Green has the option to negotiate a new agreement should he choose to decline the $27.6 million player option remaining on his current contract and enter free agency. Poole’s four-year, $140 million contract extension, which he formalized last offseason, will become active at the commencement of the upcoming league year.

The future path for the Warriors appears even more uncertain following the announcement that Bob Myers, the team’s long-standing president of basketball operations and general manager, will be departing from his roles with the organization.

After concluding the season with a 44-38 record and experiencing elimination in the second round of the playoffs, Golden State will undoubtedly seek to enhance its aging roster with the aim of contending for another championship in the upcoming year. Despite Lacob’s expressions of confidence, the Warriors face a difficult journey as they strive to maintain their position among the NBA’s elite teams.
