An NFL contest was halted due to harsh atmospheric conditions, marking the second occurrence this year. Similar to the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles game on Thursday evening, the Carolina Panthers and Jacksonville Jaguars clash was temporarily put on hold in Jacksonville because of the presence of lightning on Sunday.
Prior to the intermission, Jags’ initial selection Travis Hunter was quite active, securing four receptions for a total of 22 yards during his inaugural NFL appearance. Before the meteorological suspension, a touchdown by Hunter Long gave Jacksonville the advantage at 10-3.
Earlier in the week, the game featuring Dallas and Philadelphia experienced a break lasting more than 60 minutes due to potential lightning strikes.
The Cowboys and Eagles match was put on hold with approximately five minutes left in the third quarter. The interruption influenced both squads. Neither team managed to score again, and Philadelphia ultimately secured a 24-20 victory.
Before the suspension, Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed 10 out of 14 pass attempts for 84 yards and a touchdown pass to Long. Travis Etienne Jr. gained 28 rushing yards over six carries. Jacksonville had a 3-for-6 conversion rate on third-down plays and successfully executed their singular fourth-down attempt.
Panthers’ QB Bryce Young completed 3 of 6 pass attempts for 16 yards and one interception. Carolina RB Chubba Hubbard rushed for 31 yards on seven attempts. First-year WR Tetairoa McMillan had a single reception for 11 yards. Neither defensive unit had recorded a sack, with just one turnover created overall.
Spectators are now permitted to re-enter their seats inside EverBank Stadium in Jacksonville. Following an interruption lasting over an hour, the Panthers and Jaguars have been given the go-ahead to recommence their contest imminently.
