Following his recent brief association with the Ospreys last season, Will Spencer has committed to the French club Chambéry.

This transfer marks the 33-year-old’s second experience in France, previously playing for Soyaux-Angouleme in the Pro D2 before joining Northampton Saints on a short-term agreement at the beginning of the preceding season.

The former Bath, Worcester Warriors and Leicester Tigers second row player spent the initial part of the season at Franklin’s Gardens before moving to the United Rugby Championship.

The 125kg second row will now be a part of the Chambéry squad that has already commenced its Nationale campaign, which is the third tier of French rugby.

Spencer’s new team currently holds the fourth position in the league standings, after securing a victory in the first round against US Bressane, followed by a close defeat against Ol Marcquois Rugby.

Chambéry is scheduled to face Narbonne this weekend. While it remains uncertain whether Spencer will make his debut, the addition of a former England squad member, who was part of Eddie Jones’ setup, is expected to bolster the team’s efforts to gain promotion.
