The Wisconsin basketball program has secured a commitment from Elijah Gray, a seasoned transfer forward from Temple, as of Tuesday.
Gray, who was anticipated to choose the Badgers on Monday, marks Wisconsin’s fifth addition via the transfer portal since the conclusion of the 2024-25 campaign. The 6-foot-8 forward is projected to serve a crucial role as an experienced bench player, offering size and adaptability in the interior.
“We’re very happy to welcome Elijah into our program,” head coach Greg Gard stated on UWBadgers.com. “He provides a wealth of experience, with three years of collegiate basketball under his belt. We look forward to his arrival on campus this summer and integrating him into our preparations for the upcoming season.”
The North Carolina native declared his intention to transfer on March 27, following a productive junior year with the Temple Owls. In 25 games as a reserve, Gray posted averages of 9 points with a 48.1% field goal percentage, 3.8 rebounds, and 19.8 minutes played.
Gray joins Nick Boyd (San Diego State), Andrew Rohde (Virginia), Austin Rapp (Portland), and Braeden Carrington (Tulsa) as transfer additions to Wisconsin’s 2025-26 roster. With the departures of John Tonje, five-year veteran Steven Crowl, starting guard Max Klesmit, and bench contributors Kamari McGee, Carter Gilmore, and Xavier Amos, Gray’s presence is a good fit for the frontcourt.
While 247Sports rated the veteran as a two-star prospect, placing him as the No. 82 small forward and No. 18 player from North Carolina during his high school recruitment, Gray’s dedication is noteworthy. After limited minutes at Fordham, he experienced a significant improvement as a sophomore, starting nine of 32 games. His scoring output increased by nearly six points per game, and he demonstrated his proficiency from the free-throw line, shooting 76.7%.
His role with Wisconsin is yet to be determined, but his veteran presence could prove to be a valuable asset for Gard in the upcoming season. His first appearance is expected to be in UW’s exhibition match against Oklahoma in October.
