Zverev to Face Sinner in Vienna Final Rematch

The 28 year old from Germany celebrated his 300th triumph on the hard surface courts with an outstanding showing against Musetti.

He successfully executed the crucial moments and was precise while serving for the victory, having previously broken the Italian fourth seed in the second set’s eleventh game.

After his loss to Sinner at the Australian Open, Zverev has only managed to advance to two more finals, securing a win on clay in Munich in April and a loss on grass in Stuttgart in June.

This contrasts greatly with Sinner’s achievements, as the Italian, currently ranked second globally, became the first competitor since Novak Djokovic in 2015-16 to participate in eight finals in back-to-back seasons.

Sinner increased his string of victories on indoor hard courts to 20 games and maintained his perfect 12-win record versus Australian third seed De Minaur, securing his fourth consecutive straight-set victory in the ATP 500 competition.

He was defeated twice – once in each set – yet he struggled to get through what he called a “physical” match.

“I’m satisfied with my performance,” stated the 2023 Vienna Open champion, who seeks a fourth season title after triumphs at the Australian Open, Wimbledon, and the China Open.

“I was ahead in the second set, but he came back. I focused on maintaining mental strength, so I’m thrilled with my performance today and excited to be in another final.”

Elsewhere, the 19-year-old Brazilian Joao Fonseca achieved his first ATP 500 final, winning 7-6 (7-4) 7-5 over the unranked Spanish player Jaume Munar at the Swiss Indoors in Basel.

He will compete against another Spaniard, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, in the final, after the eighth seed’s opponent, the French player Ugo Humbert, withdrew with a score of 7-6 (7-4) 3-1 in their semi-final.
