GB’s Cash & Glasspool Win Historic Doubles Title

Since 2012, seven distinct British players have achieved victory in Grand Slam men’s doubles competitions.

Regarding Wimbledon, the Cash and Glasspool success is preceded by Neal Skupski’s title win in partnership with Dutch player Wesley Koolhof a couple of years prior, and then Henry Patten and Finnish teammate Harri Heliovaara’s win the following year.

The previous month, Cash and Glasspool made history as the first all-British duo to secure the men’s doubles title at Queen’s during the Open era.

Following that, they achieved victory at Eastbourne and have accumulated 17 wins on grass courts this season, with only one loss.

“We participated in an unbelievable number of tennis matches on grass,” Cash commented.

“There was a significant amount of pressure placed on us. The fact that we could accomplish what everyone believed we were capable of is truly unbelievable.”

This year, they’ve been the team to overcome in the doubles bracket, earning victories against defending champions Patten and Heliovaara in the quarter-finals and against French Open champions Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos in the semi-finals.

On a full Centre Court, Cash and Glasspool – showing dominance in net exchanges and remarkable serving skills – concluded the first set in just 27 minutes.

A service break in the fifth game of the second set, quickly followed by a dominant love hold, brought them within two games of the title, but Hijikata and Pel showed resilience, taking the following three games to bring the match back on serve.

At 6-5, Cash and Glasspool navigated a deuce game to push for a tie-break before securing the win with their first of three championship points.
