Philadelphia 76ers player Paul George went through an arthroscopic operation on his left knee following a recent workout injury, according to the team’s statement. George is set to start a recovery program and will undergo another evaluation before training camp commences.

“Today, Paul George had a successful arthroscopic procedure performed on his left knee to address an injury he incurred during a recent training session,” the 76ers announced. The procedure was carried out by Dr. Jonathan L. Glashow at the NYU – Langone Sports Medicine Orthopedic Center. George is now slated to begin his rehabilitation, with his progress being closely observed. He will be re-evaluated ahead of the training camp’s opening.”

George, aged 35, committed to a four-year, $211 million contract with the 76ers during the previous summer. Throughout his initial season playing for the 76ers, George’s statistics included an average of 16.2 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 4.3 assists across 41 games. George’s scoring average of 16.2 points was the lowest since the 2014-15 season, during which he participated in just six games for the Indiana Pacers.

The 76ers sidelined George with approximately a month left in the regular season after he received injections for his left adductor muscle and left knee. ESPN reported in March that George received pain-relieving injections for five consecutive games leading up to the NBA All-Star break. George’s previous season was marked by multiple injuries, including issues with his groin, finger, and knee.

Due to George’s absence for more than half of the season and center player Joel Embiid’s limited appearances in only 19 games, the 76ers concluded the season with a 24-58 record, placing them 13th in the Eastern Conference. Philadelphia experienced some good fortune during the NBA Draft lottery in May, moving up to the No. 3 pick, which they subsequently used to select Baylor star guard VJ Edgecombe.
