Team Liquid’s aspirations to participate in the BLAST Open London were dashed as they were eliminated from the online qualifiers following a defeat in their initial match at RES Showdown 2: BLAST Premier Rising.

Due to their position in the July Valve Regional Rankings (VRR), Team Liquid was among the select eight teams invited to compete. The victor of this event would progress to the online closed qualifiers for the prestigious London-based LAN competition scheduled for September.

However, the promising academy squad, VP. Prodigy, brought an end to the prominent organization’s hopes, surprising everyone with a decisive victory.

VP. Prodigy secured a victory on Dust II, but Team Liquid retaliated with a strong showing, seizing Mirage with a 13-2 score, leading to a crucial Nuke decider. The final map extended into overtime, where the Virtus.pro academy team emerged triumphant with a 16-14 score, thereby eliminating Liquid from the tournament.

“We lack cohesion as a team. The way we perform is inexplicable,” expressed a disheartened Russel ‘Twistzz’ van Dulken via social media after the setback. “We apologize to our fans for the subpar performances in recent weeks.”

The failure to secure a spot at BLAST Open London is a continuation of Team Liquid’s descending performance trend observed throughout 2025. Their Top 16 placements at the BLAST.tv Austin Major and Intel Extreme Masters (IEM) Cologne will inevitably cause the team to drop in the VRR standings.

What Are Team Liquid’s Subsequent Plans?

Despite missing out on BLAST Open London, Team Liquid has another opportunity to qualify for a premier Tier 1 LAN event, being one of the 32 teams participating in the online phase of BLAST Bounty Season 2.

The top eight teams emerging from the online qualifier will secure their presence at the LAN finals, which are to be held in Malta.

In addition, Team Liquid will also be contending in the Esports World Cup spanning from August 20th to 24th, 2025. Furthermore, in October, the organization is among the nine teams receiving a direct invite to the CAC 2025 event arranged by Perfect World, taking place that month.
