At this weekend’s Italian Grand Prix, Ferrari is set to debut an updated Formula 1 engine, utilizing allowances provided by the Additional Development and Upgrade Opportunities framework.
Launched this season, the ADUO initiative offers engine suppliers additional chances to refine their power units if they fall behind in performance, with assessments conducted on a quarterly basis.
With Red Bull controversially established as the formula’s performance baseline, Ferrari’s power deficit of more than 4% has earned the Italian squad a pair of upgrade tokens.
“As part of the evolution paths permitted by the ADUO guidelines, we are bringing a revised engine to the track,” explained team principal Frederic Vasseur.
“This marks a positive progression, and as we are all aware, this campaign is heavily defined by incremental improvements.
“The Monza track poses a stern challenge, and the margins between teams are incredibly tight. Our main focus is to ensure flawless execution from the very first session on Friday.
“We hope to feed off the immense energy of our local supporters and deliver an outstanding performance for the tifosi.”

The modification is projected to deliver an extra 15 horsepower to the Ferrari power unit, effectively cutting in half their gap to Mercedes’ engine—which remains widely regarded as the premier overall package regardless of ADUO rankings.
This performance gap has served as a bottleneck for Ferrari in 2026, particularly because their aerodynamic package matches or surpasses that of the leading Mercedes team, which currently holds an 87-point advantage over the Scuderia.
Additionally, the Maranello-based squad will sport a special paint scheme honoring Michael Schumacher to commemorate three decades since the legendary seven-time champion first raced for the team, where he went on to claim five of his titles.
“The trip to Monza is invariably an extraordinary event for everyone at Ferrari,” noted Vasseur, whose outfit aims to secure its first victory on home soil since Charles Leclerc’s triumph in 2024.
“Competing before our home fans provides a massive boost of inspiration to the entire crew, and this edition holds even deeper significance as we honor Michael Schumacher and the enduring impact he made on our team.
