During an online discussion with Jake Lucky, Adam Huang, Head of Competitive Play Tournaments for Marvel Rivals, mentioned: “I believe for now we will not be moving in that direction, as they tend to place restrictions on how things are done. We would prefer to operate autonomously so that we can coordinate matters individually. Should everything progress positively, we will entertain every possibility later on.”
A licensed league format involves teams procuring a secured position within the league, thus negating the possibility of being demoted. This is represented by entities like the Call of Duty League with its city-based model, League of Legends, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, and others.
Marvel Rivals currently adopts a more readily accessible setup. The seasonal Tournaments allow any group or lineup to partake. The Incite series integrates a selection of invitations from past competitive gaming events, together with top-performing teams emerging through Open Qualifiers.
Marvel Rivals and Competitive Play Appearance Sets
Throughout the Marvel Rivals Incite occasion, NetEase likewise detailed its strategies for expanding the game’s developing competitive play framework. While a licensed league remains improbable in the immediate term, competitive play customization items and packs were under consideration.
Within that same conversation, Huang noted: “To cultivate this ecosystem, we must go beyond simply providing an initial reward pool. We should introduce elements similar to team-themed packages, perhaps collections that support the participants, the teams, and the reward pool for the Grand Finals.”
This could mirror the approach Overwatch takes with its competitive play appearances. Whether through OWCS team collections, designed after qualified teams with profit sharing, or a comprehensive package contributing to a tournament reward pool.
Marvel Rivals has previously introduced competitive play-oriented visual enhancements, including Twitch Rewards launched to encourage viewing of the Marvel Rivals Incite Mid-Season Finals.
