Miami Heretics has asserted that one of their competitors violated a spoken understanding concerning the portrayal of the team throughout the upcoming Call of Duty League (CDL) period.

The team mentioned that José ‘ReeaL‘ Manuel Fernández had verbally consented to represent Miami Heretics in Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 before allegedly signing with a different team.

Based on a declaration released by Miami Heretics on August 10th, 2025, ReeaL had ‘verbally agreed’ to the updated terms of a deal that was scheduled to be finalized in the following days. Even though neither ReaaL nor the agency representing him has acknowledged a violation, the team has stated that the competitor has signed with Toronto Ultra.

In addition to the violation of the spoken understanding, allegations of other Miami Heretics competitors accepting a pay reduction in an attempt to retain ReaaL on the roster started to circulate. Team Heretics co-founder Jorge ‘Goorgo’ Orejudo responded, declaring that the claims of pay cuts were “completely untrue.”

“We aim to convey our thorough comprehension of a competitor’s choice to switch teams,” reads a portion of Miami Heretics’ declaration.

“Nevertheless, we strongly condemn the infringement of spoken understandings, as it harms the reliance and esteem that ought to prevail within our sector.”

The declaration has ignited a noteworthy reaction from within the Call of Duty esports sphere, with numerous individuals expressing that ReaaL possessed the entitlement to sign with a fresh team, given that no formal agreement was signed.

“If spoken commitments held legitimacy in esports, I would be a millionaire. It lacks validity until it’s documented in writing,” remarked seasoned esports host Chris Puckett.

What Awaits Miami Heretics?

With ReaaL reportedly on his way to Toronto Ultra for the upcoming season, Miami Heretics is now seeking to fill a gap created by one of the most encouraging talents to emerge from the European landscape.

According to prominent Call of Duty informant TheGhostOfHope, the team is reportedly intending to sign Boston Breach competitor Eric ‘Snoopy‘ Pérez Lozano to the inaugural line-up.
