Rajput Eyes Upset: UAE Aims High in 2025 Asia Cup

The sport of cricket is anticipating the Asia Cup 2025, an event poised to showcase exhilarating competition and noteworthy plays. The tournament is rapidly approaching, causing fans worldwide to gear up for face-offs between the continent’s foremost competitors. The dynamic T20 structure intensifies the anticipation, promising potential surprises in each match.

UAE coach Rajput supports his team’s capability to exceed expectations

Among the teams readying themselves for the contest, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have quietly positioned themselves as a team determined to assert their capabilities. Head coach Lalchand Rajput voiced his confidence in his team, suggesting that they possess the talent and resolve necessary to challenge established cricket powerhouses.

Despite finding themselves in a group with India, Pakistan, and Oman — a potentially overwhelming prospect — Rajput maintains that the UAE should not be taken lightly.

“The critical period is beginning for us. Wins over Test-playing nations such as Bangladesh have instilled confidence in us. It’s not about being presumptuous, but about having faith in our capabilities. In the T20 format, anything can occur – we are capable of causing upsets against any team,” Rajput stated to Gulf News.

The former India cricketer highlighted the significance of physical conditioning and psychological resilience when competing against formidable rivals.

“We are putting in considerable effort into honing our skills, improving our fitness levels, and refining our fielding techniques. Competing against top-tier teams requires more than just inherent talent; it demands dedication and sharp focus. If we are capable of defeating a team like Bangladesh, there is no reason why we shouldn’t strive for greater achievements,” he stated further.

UAE to stage tri-series featuring Pakistan and Afghanistan prior to Asia Cup

Leading up to the Asia Cup, the UAE is scheduled to host Pakistan and Afghanistan in a seven-match T20I tri-series at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, spanning from August 29 to September 7. This series is intended as a crucial preparatory event, affording the Emirati players a chance to evaluate their capabilities against two well-regarded cricketing nations before participating in the continental tournament.

The series commences with a match between Pakistan and Afghanistan on August 29, followed by the hosts making their initial appearance against Pakistan the following day. For coach Rajput, this tri-series represents more than just a pre-tournament exercise—it provides an avenue to refine techniques, enhance assurance, and strengthen mental preparation for the formidable challenge of facing Asia’s most competitive teams.
