Micah Parsons ‘Great’ After Cowboys-Packers Trade: Live NFL Cuts Updates

Supporters of the Dallas Cowboys might be experiencing some disappointment following the significant player movement involving star defensive end Micah Parsons going to the Green Bay Packers. However, Parsons himself has stated he is feeling “great.”

Parsons addressed the media on Friday during his introductory press conference, expressing his good physical condition and eagerness to begin playing immediately. Parsons had been absent from Dallas’ preseason workouts due to a back problem (though it’s possible that the ongoing contract negotiations also played a role).

“In terms of my physical condition, I feel excellent,” Parsons stated on Friday. “I believe I have a lot to offer. I intend to collaborate with the medical staff to develop a strategy. We’ve already discussed how to gradually increase my activity and get me into a rhythm where both they and I feel at ease.”

“My intention is to be present here. They didn’t give up what they did for me to remain on the sidelines.”

As part of the agreement, Green Bay secured Parsons, the 2021 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, a three-time All-Pro selection, and a four-time Pro Bowler, with a reported four-year contract worth $188 million, including $136 million guaranteed. This figure establishes him as the highest-paid player in NFL history who is not a quarterback.

In exchange, Dallas received two first-round draft choices and defensive tackle Kenny Clark. Clark mentioned on Friday that he was “surprised” by the trade but is “thankful” for the new chance.

The player move concluded several months of ongoing discussions between Parsons and his agent, David Mulugheta, and Cowboys team owner and general manager Jerry Jones. Jones reportedly believed he had finalized a deal with Parsons, but Mulugheta was not involved. When Parsons insisted on Mulugheta’s involvement, the deal apparently collapsed. Jones criticized Parsons during a lengthy media conference at the start of training camp. Subsequently, Parsons requested a trade, and last week, Jones continued to make comments about Mulugheta during a media tour, which likely contributed to Parsons’ apparent disengagement on the sidelines during the Cowboys’ final preseason game.

NFL top storylines

  • Texans GM uncertain about Joe Mixon’s playing status this season: Mixon was placed on the reserve/non-football injury list on Monday due to a foot injury, which means he will be out for the first four weeks of the season. Will he participate this year? “We’ll see. We’ll approach it gradually,” stated Texans general manager Nick Caserio. “We will assess those players after four weeks to determine their progress and then decide.” Mixon’s foot injury prevented him from participating in offseason OTAs, minicamp, and all of training camp. His absence from the Texans’ roster creates an opportunity for Nick Chubb to lead the running back depth chart, followed by Dameon Pierce, Dare Ogunbowale, and Woody Marks.

  • NFL introduces special jerseys to be worn during the 2025 season: The NFL is enhancing rivalry games in 2025. In an effort to highlight important matchups between major rivals, teams from the AFC East and NFC West will wear new jerseys for selected games. The league unveiled these special uniforms on Thursday, and they were well-received by fans. View the AFC East and NFC West’s versions right here.

  • Colts insist they are not trading Anthony Richardson: Despite replacing Richardson with Daniel Jones, Colts general manager Chris Ballard stated on Wednesday that he is staying. “We’re not trading him,” Ballard said clearly, via ESPN’s Stephen Holder. The Colts signed Jones to a one-year agreement in March, and he seemed to validate that choice by defeating Richardson in a QB1 competition during training camp. Richardson was selected fourth overall in 2023 but has faced challenges with injuries and inconsistent performance.
