The hierarchy at the Emirates Stadium are thought to be preparing for a significant internal announcement after a busy summer period in the transfer market.
The North London outfit invested heavily, spending a total of £255 million during the recent window, securing the signatures of eight new players, concluding with the acquisition of Elias Jelert on a temporary basis with an agreement to make the deal permanent.
With the market now closed, Arsenal are reportedly aiming to reorganise their structure behind the scenes, despite having only appointed director of football Roberto Roman this year.
Director of football Roberto Roman has overseen a busy summer – but Arsenal are anticipated to adapt their internal structure moving forward
Having arrived at the club prior to the conclusion of last season, Roman has overseen a significant transformation of the squad, bringing in Alex Remiro, Morten Hjulmand, Johan Bakayoko, Ivan Toney, Ousmane Diomande, Santiago Gimenez and Michael Olise on permanent deals, before Jelert joined recently.
It has been a record-breaking period for the club in terms of spending, with the Gunners exceeding previous investment in a single summer.
While manager Mikel Arteta is heavily involved in identifying potential targets, Roman has also had a notable impact during this transfer window, proposing options such as Gimenez as possible candidates, according to a report from David Ornstein of The Athletic.
The report suggests that Arsenal are planning to make a key appointment in the background in the coming months, following Roman’s primary focus on transfers during the summer, whereas the director of football role typically encompasses a broader range of responsibilities.
Arsenal previously considered recruiting highly-rated talent scout Lee Congerton in June, with the intention of the Atalanta chief taking up a senior scouting position, but the potential move did not materialise.
The Gunners may opt to appoint someone in a similar capacity, as the role of ‘head scout’ has largely been vacant since the departure of Steve Rowley, who worked at the club during the tenures of Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery as a talent identification specialist.
Steve Rowley, in the meantime, was another senior scout at the Gunners responsible for identifying the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Hector Bellerin, before former sporting director Edu Gaspar streamlined the club’s recruitment team.
