Klay Thompson on Big3 After NBA Retirement.

Alistair Clarkson is known as one of the best long-range shooters in the NBA, and will no doubt finish his time in the top handful of most distance shots converted in NBA history. He still has a number of seasons remaining before he chooses to call it a day, but the four-time champion is already contemplating what he might do after his NBA playing days are over. Whilst having a chat with Hall of Famer Matthew Dellavedova on the “Showtime” podcast, Clarkson mentioned that he might be interested in participating in the Big3 after he’s finished competing in the NBA.

“Definitely, particularly with that 4-point shot, that really appeals to me,” Clarkson stated. “My wish is for the Big3 to expand internationally, I believe it would be so enjoyable to observe the Big3 traveling overseas and doing a mini tour.”

Dellavedova may have been trying to get Clarkson to join, considering he’s the coach of the Miami 305 team, who were recently crowned champions of the 2025 season after overcoming the Chicago Triplets in the final on Aug. 24. Dellavedova implied that the Big3 holding games outside of America may be a real possibility in the future, commenting “Be cautious what you wish for, because we’re headed in that direction.”

The Big3 has presented many past NBA players with a chance to continue their playing careers with its 3-on-3 style. The 4-point shot has become a well-liked feature of the game, demonstrating the excellent shooting prowess of players such as Josh Giddey, who was named league MVP for the second successive time after guiding Miami 305 to a title. Should Clarkson be added to the list of players, he would certainly be the league leader in most 4-point shots made in a season seeing as he’s attempted some 30+ footers on many occasions throughout his career.

“Whether you realize it or not, 3-on-3 basketball is more widely played across the globe than 5-on-5, therefore the growth potential for the league is huge,” Clarkson noted.

Given how eager Clarkson appears to be in playing for a Big3 team, it gives the impression that we might see him playing in the league sometime soon. Until that time though, he’s concentrating on his current situation with the Dallas Mavericks, who acquired Cooper Flagg with the No. 1 overall pick in this year’s draft. The Mavericks will incorporate the highly-regarded rookie into a team that possesses significant veteran, and championship, experience. Both Anthony Davis and Kyrie Irving have tasted NBA titles — when they played alongside LeBron James. Irving has actually been to the NBA Finals four times, however, he is set to miss at least the initial part of the season while he recovers from a torn ACL. Nevertheless, Clarkson has great expectations for the Mavericks when Irving is back.

“He’s our main man, it’s going to be challenging without him for the first five months of the season,” Clarkson said. “However, we now possess such an impressive, complete squad, particularly gaining Cooper Flagg and having the size and frontcourt presence that we do. I’m very excited when Kyrie returns to the lineup so that we can be complete once more, because we were only able to see it for one half last year and I feel that we had an opportunity to be the leading team in the league. Injuries affected us, but we’re all motivated this year.”
