During Tuesday night’s competition against the New York Mets, power hitter Kyle Schwarber achieved the distinction of securing the second instance of a player hitting 50 home runs within a single season for the Philadelphia Phillies, ultimately leading to a 9-3 victory for the home team. He now shares this honor with Ryan Howard, who established a Phillies record of 58 home runs back in 2006.

Here’s a presentation of Schwarber’s 50th seasonal home run:

Taking advantage of a 3-1 cutter delivered by Mets relief pitcher Justin Hagenman, Schwarber powerfully struck the ball at a speed of 110.4 mph, propelling it a distance of 437 feet towards the center of the field. Schwarber’s achievement marks the 52nd occurrence of a player hitting 50 or more home runs in MLB history and the second instance in 2025, following Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh. As expected, this accomplishment was celebrated with a curtain call at Citizens Bank Park:

Schwarber, currently in his age-32 season, boasts a batting average of .241, an on-base percentage of .365, and a slugging percentage of .563, fulfilling his role as the Phillies’ designated hitter on a daily basis. It is clear that he has played a crucial role in the Phillies’ anticipated division title in 2025 and is a strong contender for the MVP award in the National League. The timing of Schwarber’s 50-home run season is particularly significant, as he is set to become a free agent in the upcoming offseason.

Schwarber’s 50th home run of the season also marks the 334th home run of his 11-year major league career. Out of those 334 home runs, 181 have been achieved while playing for the Phillies in just four seasons.

Regarding the Phillies, their victory on Tuesday brings their record to 85-60, giving them a nine-game advantage over the Mets in the NL East.
