The Charlotte Hornets have rescinded a planned occasion centered around wagering on sports from their schedule of promotional activities for the 2025-26 season. The event was initially planned for March 17, coinciding with a game against the Miami Heat. This particular game was intended to highlight former player Terry Rozier, currently with the Heat, as he visits the Spectrum Center.

The Hornets’ other themed events are more routine, like celebrating Kids Day, raising Breast Cancer Awareness, honoring the military with Hoops for Troops, and other initiatives. However, Rozier is currently referenced in connection to a federal inquiry into sports betting, which originated from a game in 2023 during his tenure with the Hornets. In an unexpected twist, March 17 also marks Rozier’s birthday.

According to details provided by Ira Winderman of the Orlando Sun-Sentinel, the Hornets have stated their decision to cancel the “Sports Betting” theme night that was previously set for that date.

Rozier, who played for the Hornets between 2019 and 2024, has been associated with irregular gambling behavior preceding a March 2023 game against the Pelicans. In that game, he participated for only the initial nine minutes and thirty-six seconds before exiting due to a foot injury. As reported by the Wall Street Journal, authorities are exploring the possibility that individuals linked to the Jontay Porter betting controversy might have possessed privileged information that motivated them to wager against Rozier.

While the focus of the investigation involves examining whether Rozier intentionally affected his performance, it is important to mention that he has not faced formal charges or direct accusations of engaging in any misconduct.
