The experiences of former quarterback Robert Griffin III have provided him with extensive knowledge regarding injuries and the challenges of performing while in discomfort. It is for this reason that the former Washington QB, who was selected with the second overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, is expressing his satisfaction in witnessing the team’s decision to prioritize the well-being of their current quarterback this weekend.

Washington has officially announced that Jayden Daniels will be unable to participate in the team’s Week 3 game against the Raiders due to a knee sprain, thereby mitigating the possibility of the injury worsening. It is widely known that Griffin participated in the 2012 playoffs while experiencing a knee injury, which ultimately resulted in tears to his ACL, LCL, and meniscus in his right knee. Shortly thereafter, he underwent reconstructive surgery. The consensus is that these injuries had an adverse impact on his professional trajectory.

“The Washington Commanders are acting prudently by prioritizing Jayden Daniels’ health and preventing him from playing while he has a knee injury,” Griffin shared on X. “Opting to safeguard his long-term prospects instead of prioritizing immediate, short-term success is a judicious decision. While athletes generally prefer to participate, the organization’s duty lies in safeguarding the athlete’s future. Well done.”

The individual, aged 35, possesses firsthand understanding of the significance of refraining from exacerbating an injury. During his period of recuperation, Griffin implied that multiple parties contributed to the injury that precipitated the downturn in his career.

Griffin and Daniels embarked on their professional journeys in a remarkably similar manner. Both individuals were chosen as the second overall pick by Washington and subsequently received Rookie of the Year accolades. Daniels played a pivotal role in concluding a four-year playoff drought for the franchise, guiding the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game. Griffin, on the other hand, was instrumental in securing Washington’s first division title in more than a decade back in 2012.
