Gauff stated: “I was aware that she addressed my support group, though I wasn’t sure of the specifics. They indicated she said, ‘Be quiet’. I didn’t personally overhear it, so I’m relying on their account.
“I was urging her to show consideration. I’ve always treated her team with kindness off the court. We’ve treated each other well. I simply didn’t appreciate that remark directed at my team. We proceeded forward after that.
“I haven’t engaged in conversation with her since then. She has the right to her emotions, and I have the right to my reaction.
“Without a doubt, I hold a great deal of respect for Belinda. She’s an exceptional athlete, making a comeback and demonstrating excellent tennis skills as a mother. I certainly wish today had unfolded differently, but it’s unchangeable.”
Gauff also supported Wimbledon champion Iga Swiatek after her statement on Monday regarding the excessive length of the tennis season.
“I believe I’ve essentially participated in as much tennis as I’m physically capable of,” Gauff expressed.
“It’s simply unattainable. Especially with the increasing number of events spanning two weeks, it doesn’t seem logical to overexert your physical well-being.”
