J.J. McCarthy is making his way back to the Minnesota Vikings lineup; however, his immediate role as the starting quarterback remains uncertain.
McCarthy had been sidelined due to an ankle injury sustained after participating in two games for the Vikings earlier this season. His official return to practice occurred this past Wednesday. However, Vikings’ coach Kevin O’Connell has yet to announce whether he or Carson Wentz will be in the starting position for their upcoming game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Currently, McCarthy is practicing alongside Wentz.
The San Francisco 49ers, already struggling with several injuries, suffered a further setback on Sunday. Linebacker Fred Warner sustained a season-ending ankle injury, which required him to be transported off the field and will require surgery. This occurred during their match against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The 49ers have been playing without quarterback Brock Purdy, who is still recovering from a toe injury initially aggravated in Week 4, and wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, sidelined for the past two games with a knee injury. Wide receiver Jauan Jennings mentioned to reporters that he’s dealing with five broken ribs, in addition to other injuries.
On a positive note for San Francisco, tight end George Kittle might be able to make his return this week when they face the Atlanta Falcons.
The Baltimore Ravens, who have also faced their share of injuries, experienced an unexpected 1-5 record in Week 6. Nonetheless, head coach John Harbaugh stated after their recent game that quarterback Lamar Jackson is anticipated to return after their Week 7 bye week.
During Week 8, the Ravens are expected to have Jackson, a two-time NFL MVP, back on the field, along with linebacker Roquan Smith, a five-time All-Pro player.
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray was absent during their game in Indianapolis because of a foot issue, identified as a mid-foot sprain similar to a Lisfranc injury. Backup quarterback Jacoby Brissett stepped in and passed for over 300 yards in the Cardinals’ defeat. In addition, wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. suffered a concussion during the second quarter.
Another young receiver out of Ohio State, Emeka Egbuka, sustained a hamstring injury against the 49ers, disrupting his NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year bid.
Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua sustained an ankle injury during their game against the Ravens. While Nacua was able to finish the game, head coach Sean McVay mentioned that he was unsure if the receiver would be able to participate in the upcoming game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London.
