The matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Brooklyn Nets on Friday night experienced a brief interruption when a spectator entered the playing area and moved toward Cavs player Donovan Mitchell. This occurrence transpired when the Cavaliers were leading 121-115, nearing the conclusion of the fourth quarter.

In the immediate aftermath of a called foul, an unidentified person was observed running onto the court, approaching Mitchell with a phone in hand, seemingly aiming it at him for unclear reasons. Mitchell responded by stepping back, appearing bewildered by the situation.

Security personnel promptly intervened, leading to a short pause in the game.

“I retreated a couple of steps and then stabilized my position, preparing to address whatever might happen,” Mitchell commented regarding the event. “However, the individual simply desired a photo. I suspect they might be detained, but upon release, they will likely possess a remarkable photograph, I must admit.”

Following the disruption, the Cavaliers secured a 131-124 victory, with Mitchell contributing 35 points, five assists, three steals, and six successful 3-point shots. The Cavaliers now hold an 8-1 record against the Nets in their last nine encounters spanning three seasons. With a record of 1-1, they aim to rebound from their previous defeat in the Eastern Conference semifinals, despite having achieved the top position in the conference during the regular season.

“Initially, I was perplexed. Upon noticing the individual approaching Don, I moved in their direction. However, Barclays Center boasts excellent security,” Cavs center Jarrett Allen stated. “I commend them; they managed the situation effectively. When the person was escorted off the court, their feet were not touching the ground. They physically removed them from the premises.”
