The Montreal Canadiens’ Patrik Laine is projected to be absent for a period spanning from three to four months following a surgery addressing a core muscle ailment, as stated by the NHL organization on Saturday.

Laine’s most recent game appearance was on October 16 against Nashville. Initially, the Canadiens communicated that he would be out on a day-to-day basis due to a lower-body concern, prior to their October 19 home game against the New York Rangers.

Prior to the injury, the 27-year-old forward from Finland saw limited action, accumulating one assist and averaging a career-low ice time of 12 minutes and 26 seconds over the course of five games.

Last season, Laine recorded 20 goals and contributed 13 assists across 52 games, marking his inaugural season with the Canadiens. He had previously missed the initial 24 games due to a knee sprain. Montreal secured Laine through a trade involving Columbus leading up to the 2024-25 season.

In his second season in 2017-18 with the Winnipeg Jets, he achieved a career-best of 44 goals and amassed 70 points.

The Canadiens were scheduled to resume their activities on Saturday evening in Vancouver.
