The time of Brandon Aiyuk, the San Francisco 49ers receiver, with the squad might be concluding. After experiencing a significant knee issue the previous year, it was anticipated that Aiyuk would eventually rejoin the team this season. Nevertheless, as the season nears its end, the scenario has grown increasingly uncertain.

Information obtained from sources such as ESPN and The Athletic suggests that San Francisco nullified the assured financial provisions in Aiyuk’s contract for the 2026 season during the training period. This action was reportedly due to his inability to fulfill the stipulations of the contract extensions he had formalized in August 2024, amounting to $120 million distributed over a duration of four years. An option bonus valued at $24.935 million was a component of Aiyuk’s agreement; while initially guaranteed on April 1, this guarantee has now been revoked. It remains unclear whether the 49ers will compensate him with his $1.215 million base compensation, in addition to bonuses linked to workouts and appearances per game.

Aiyuk has been absent from the playing field following a right knee injury sustained in October 2024. In a game against the Kansas City Chiefs during Week 7 of the previous season, he suffered tears to his ACL, MCL, and meniscus. The team had initially expressed optimism regarding his potential return to training sessions around the midpoint of the season. The timeframe is compressing, with only six matches left in the regular season.

“Brandon is considered on a week-by-week assessment,” Kyle Shanahan, the Niners’ coach, communicated to the press on Monday. “Given the gravity of the injury he sustained, we are simply awaiting his full comfort before he resumes participation in training.”
