From MIAMI — The Miami Heat announced on Friday that their All-Star guard, Norman Powell, has sustained a right groin strain and is expected to miss a minimum of seven days.
During the initial half of Thursday’s defeat against Philadelphia, Powell incurred the injury. An MRI scan verified a Grade 1, or minor, strain, with the team classifying his condition as week-to-week for the foreseeable future.
This season, Powell stands as Miami’s primary points contributor, maintaining an average of 22.5 points per game. The Heat’s record is 22 wins and 16 losses when he achieves 19 points or more, contrasting with a 9-13 record in games where he scores less or is absent.
Should Powell’s recovery span merely one week, he could miss as few as four matchups: hosting Houston on Saturday, playing Brooklyn at home on both Tuesday and Thursday, and then an away game versus Charlotte the following Friday.
The upcoming Saturday fixture against the Rockets marks the beginning of an eight-game period for Miami, featuring seven contests played on their home court.
This year marks Powell’s inaugural All-Star selection and his initial season with the Heat organization. He currently paces Miami in overall field goals made, three-point field goals converted, and free throws successfully shot throughout the current campaign.
