FROM NEW YORK — James Harden, still in recovery from a fractured thumb, successfully rejoined the Cleveland Cavaliers lineup this past Sunday.
The celebrated 11-time All-Star contributed 22 points, collected nine rebounds, and distributed eight assists during Cleveland’s 106-102 triumph over the Brooklyn Nets. His shooting from beyond the arc was effective, making 4 out of 7 attempts.
Harden, aged 36, was sidelined for two matches following the injury to his right thumb, which occurred during Tuesday evening’s 109-94 victory against the New York Knicks.
“It was evident in the initial half that he wasn’t operating at full capacity,” noted Cleveland’s coach, Kenny Atkinson. “However, I felt that in the latter half, he experienced a period where, despite our team’s difficulties, he asserted control, drew fouls for free throws, and sank a few three-pointers, which proved beneficial.”
Harden joined the team following a trade with the Los Angeles Clippers on February 3rd. The seasoned 17-year professional is currently averaging 19.3 points, 8.0 assists, and 5.1 rebounds across his eight appearances for Cleveland.
The 6-foot-5 guard accumulated eight points during the first half of the game against Brooklyn, with the Nets holding a 52-46 advantage at halftime. Nevertheless, Cleveland mounted a comeback after the intermission.
Harden successfully sank two free throws and completed a four-point play, aiding the Cavaliers in establishing a 70-64 lead with 4 minutes and 40 seconds remaining in the third quarter.
“His presence was crucial for us this evening,” Atkinson remarked. “Despite playing at a disadvantage due to his injury, he delivered a very strong performance.”
